1. Who We Are
MeraSignal is a product of Akshee Technologies, a company registered in India. We build tools that help Indian consumers make informed decisions about their mobile network operators.

2. What We Collect
When you use MeraSignal, we collect the following data from your device:
- Location (GPS coordinates) โ collected in the background to map signal strength at different places. Stored as coordinates only, not as addresses or place names.
- Signal strength (dBm) โ the signal level your device receives from mobile towers.
- Network type โ whether you are on 5G, 4G, 3G or 2G at a given time.
- Operator name โ which telecom operator your SIM is registered with (Jio, Airtel, Vi, BSNL).
- Speed test results โ download speed, upload speed, latency and jitter when you voluntarily run a speed test.
- Device information โ your device platform (Android/iOS), OS version and a randomly generated device ID. We do not collect your phone number, IMEI, name or email address.
3. What We Do NOT Collect
- Your name, email address or phone number
- Your IMEI or any permanent device identifier
- Your contacts, messages or call logs
- Photos, files or any content from your device
- Browsing history or app usage data
- Payment information of any kind
4. Why We Collect It
We use the data exclusively to:
- Build a crowd-sourced map of network quality across India
- Show you how your network compares to others in your area
- Calculate operator honesty scores based on real-world performance
- Improve the accuracy and coverage of our network intelligence
We do not use your data for advertising. We do not build individual profiles. We do not sell, rent or share your data with third parties for commercial purposes.
5. How We Store and Protect It
All data is stored on servers located in India, specifically on Google Cloud Platform in the Mumbai region (asia-south1). This ensures compliance with Indian data localisation requirements under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDPA).
Signal readings are anonymised โ they are associated with a randomly generated device ID, not your name or phone number. Even our own engineers cannot trace a reading back to an individual person.
We use industry-standard encryption in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest.
6. How Long We Keep It
- Raw signal readings are retained for 90 days, after which they are automatically deleted.
- Speed test results are retained for 90 days for operator score calculation.
- Aggregated, anonymised statistics (used for coverage maps and operator scores) may be retained indefinitely as they contain no individual data.
- Your device registration record is retained until you delete your data.
7. Your Rights Under DPDPA 2023
Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you have the following rights:
- Right to access โ request a copy of all data we hold about your device ID by emailing us.
- Right to correction โ request correction of inaccurate data.
- Right to erasure โ delete all your data at any time via Settings โ Danger Zone โ Delete My Data in the app, or by emailing us.
- Right to withdraw consent โ disable background data collection anytime via Settings โ Privacy โ Background signal collection.
- Right to grievance redressal โ raise a complaint with our Data Protection Officer at [email protected].
8. Background Location Access
MeraSignal requests background location access to passively collect signal strength data as you move through different areas. This is the core function of the app โ without it, we cannot build an accurate coverage map.
Google Play requires us to prominently disclose this before the system permission dialog appears, which we do on the onboarding consent screen. You can revoke this permission at any time from your device settings.
9. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:
- Google Cloud Platform โ server infrastructure, database, storage (India region)
- Google Maps / Geocoding API โ to resolve location names to coordinates for the network search feature. Location queries are sent to Google's servers.
- Mappls (MapmyIndia) โ reverse geocoding for Indian addresses. Location coordinates are sent to Mappls servers.
- Cloudflare โ CDN, website hosting and DDoS protection
We do not use Facebook Pixel, Google Analytics, or any advertising trackers on this website or in the app.
10. Children's Privacy
MeraSignal is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with data, please contact us immediately at [email protected].
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of material changes via an in-app notice. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
